Alkagesta said in a company press release that its steel trading arm, Alkavex, carried out business development visits in Tangshan and Tianjin, China, on 12-15 October 2026. The announcement described meetings with steel producers, trading and processing businesses, and industry representatives as part of the venture’s continuing commercial development work in China. The activities concerned steel sourcing and trading rather than fertilizer products.
Bayram Bayramli, Alkagesta’s China Business Developer, led the engagements. According to the release, the meetings covered manufacturers, processors and industry associations, giving the company a closer view of production capacity, supply chain infrastructure and opportunities for international trade. Alkagesta presented the programme as a way to develop commercial relationships with participants across the two cities’ steel industries.
The company characterised Tangshan and Tianjin as a major Chinese corridor for steel production and exports. It said the visits strengthened relationships supporting Alkavex’s regional sourcing and trading operations. That assessment is Alkagesta’s own account of the engagements; the release did not identify the businesses visited or provide details of any contracts, purchase volumes or other commercial commitments arising from the meetings.
Alkavex is based in Malta and operates as a joint venture between Alkagesta and French steel trading company Navex SAS. Alkagesta holds the majority interest, according to the announcement. The venture’s initial product focus is on semi-finished and finished steel, with China identified as its principal sourcing market. The release places the Chinese engagements within that sourcing and trading remit.
On the sales side, Alkavex serves customers in both West and East Africa. Alkagesta described the venture’s offering as bringing together market expertise, logistics capabilities and trade finance solutions for those customers. It linked the business to demand from construction, manufacturing and infrastructure development, but supplied no figures for sales, shipments or demand growth in those markets.
